And fjdklfdsk what if they were in the middle of a heated Go discussion and one of them just accidentally let the other’s first name slip? And then it would be awkward for half a second - they’d stop the argument, stare at each other without saying a word, and then just keep going, because alright, time for first names now. Ugh these precious babies.

And I can just imagine Hikaru being really clingy sometimes because after Sai disappeared, he’s just so scared of losing the people he loves. So if he wakes up one morning and Akira isn’t next to him, he’d panic. He’d jump out of bed and start yelling for Akira, who would come sprinting back from the kitchen (where he’d been drinking tea and reading Weekly Go) because his Hikaru sounded so worried. Then as soon as Hikaru saw Akira, he’d grab him and sink his forehead onto Akira’s shoulder and mumble, “Don’t leave.” And Akira would just hold him and reassure him that he’d always be with Hikaru.

“What made you think that was a good move, Shindou?” Akira’s anger is just barely restrained. He’s glaring at the goban as if it’s the one responsible for personally offending him.

“It was a good move! How was I supposed to know you’d move there?” Hikaru replies indignantly, pointing at intersection on the board. It’s their 4th game of the evening, and this marks his second loss. Damn it, he thinks. He had been so close.

“You’re insane! Anyone with eyes can see that this game was over the minute you played that hand.”

“Whatever,” Hikaru mumbles, reluctant to admit Akira may be right. He begins clearing the stones from the board.

“‘Whatever?’” demands Akira, openly enraged now. Perhaps that was the wrong way to end the discussion. 

“If you’re not going to take this seriously, Hikar—” Akira cuts himself off abruptly, mouth shutting closed. He seems almost… appalled by his faux pas. Hikaru kind of feels bad for him. However, he’s not going to sacrifice the upper-hand now that he’s got it.

“S-sorry, I didn’t mean-” starts Akira.

“‘S’fine, you can call me that,” Hikaru says hurriedly. For some reason, his chest aches at the thought of Akira taking it back. It’s taken them years to get to this point, he doesn’t want to take a step backwards now.

He can’t meet Akira’s eyes. He taps a stone against the side of the goban once, twice. He wonders why his face feels so damn hot.

“You can… call me Akira, if you’d like.”

Hikaru chances a glance at Akira. He’s staring at the carpet, looking as flushed as Hikaru feels.

Hikaru allows himself to smile.

“All right… best 3 out of 5 then, Akira?”

Akira scoffs. “You’d better not waste my time, Hikaru.”

It’s not a sure thing yet, but I really want to have a mini vacation since I’m missing the family trip to India SIGH.
